A smashed or cracked door panel is more than an eyesore. It leaves a gap in your home’s security and lets in draughts and rain. The usual route is to order a made-to-measure panel and wait, often around 12 working days. At Glass Tec Windows, we are doing something different.

What replacement door panels do we have in stock?

We hold two designs in white, ready to collect:

• Solid Shiplap: a clean, solid panel with a horizontal shiplap profile. It suits a wide range of uPVC doors and gives a traditional look.
• Half Moon Georgian Bar: a decorative design with a half-moon shape and Georgian bar detailing, for doors that need a more classic finish.

Both are 28mm reinforced MDF-core panels, finished in white. Because they are supplied oversize, you cut them to the size of your own door.

How to replace a broken uPVC door panel

We supply the panel only. We do not fit it, so it is a job for you or your own fitter. A competent DIYer can usually do it. Here is the process in outline.

1. Measure and check the thickness. Confirm your existing panel is 28mm thick. If you can, bring a piece of the old panel with you when you collect. It is the easiest way to be sure.
2. Remove the glazing beads. These are the strips that hold the panel in place. Ease them out carefully with a putty knife so they can go back in without damage. Check which side of the door they are on before you start.
3. Take out the old panel. Lift out the broken panel and clean the rebate (the channel it sits in) of any debris or old sealant.
4. Cut the new panel to size. Mark your measurements on the new panel and cut it with a fine-toothed saw or a jigsaw suited to plastics. Wear a dust mask and eye protection, because the core produces fine dust. Allow a small gap around the edge for expansion, and sealing the cut edge helps protect the core from moisture. If you are unsure, ask us when you call.
5. Fit the panel, toe and heel it, then refit the beads. Place the panel in the rebate and support it on glazing packers, toe and heeling it. Put a packer under the bottom edge at the hinge side (the heel) and another at the top on the lock side (the toe), so the weight of the panel is carried towards the hinges and the door does not drop or drag. Check the panel sits evenly, then refit the beads firmly and make sure the door opens and closes freely.
